Printen
Ingredients
- Ingredients
- 500 grams brown Syrup
- 500 grams Pastry flour
- 200 grams sugar
- 100 grams honey
- 5 Tbsps water
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp cilantro
- 2 tsps cinnamon
- 1 pinch grated Nutmeg
- 1 pinch baking soda
- 5 grams potatoes
- 200 grams slivered almonds (lightly toasted)
Preparation steps
Heat water in a saucepan, and dissolve honey, brown syrup and sugar in it. Cool the liquid and keep aside.
Dissolve potash and soda in a glass of water. Add the potash solution to the flour and spices, and knead into a smooth dough. Cover the dough in foil wrap and let it rest for 1-2 days in a dark, cool place.
To prepare the Printen, knead the dough again and roll out into about 1 cm (approximately ½ inch) thick. Then cut out rectangles of size 10 cm (approximately 4 inches). Place the rectangles on a lightly greased baking tray or a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (fan: 180°C, gas mark 3) (approximately 400°F) for 20 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let cool. Sprinkle the Printen with sugar water and sprinkled with sliced almonds and allow to dry thoroughly.
