Soak the kelp in warm water for about 30 minutes. Cut into about 4 cm (approximately 2 inch) wide strips and sauté briefly in a pan with the sesame oil.

Season with salt and soy sauce, and add about 1 liter (approximately 4 cups) of water. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and broth to taste. Serve with rice.
