1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg (lightly beaten)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Preparation steps

Preheat oven to 350º F / 180º C. Grease a 9 x 9-inch / 23 x 23 cm baking pan.

In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. Mix well and set aside.

Combine the brown sugar and melted butter; stirring to mix well. Add the beaten egg and vanilla to the brown sugar mixture, stirring to incorporate. Gradually, add the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.

Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack. Sprinkle with additional walnuts, if desired. Cut and serve.
