Beef Thai-Style

- 4 Steak fillet (about 160 g or 1/3 pound)

- olive oil
- 1 shallot
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 centimeters ginger
- 1 chili pepper
- 2 allspice
- ½ tsp peppercorns
- 3 sprigs Thai basil
- Thai basil (for garnish)
Preparation steps
Preheat oven to 160°C (approximately 320°F).
Rinse steaks and pat dry. Season with salt and pepper and brown in 1-2 tbsp hot oil in a pan. Remove from pan. Peel and chop shallot, garlic and ginger. Rinse and chop chili pepper. Grind allspice with peppercorn in a mortar and mix with shallot,, garlic, ginger, chili and 1-2 tbsp of oil. Pluck basil leaves and cut into strips. Mix with spices and season with salt.
Brush center of steaks with olive oil, place on individual pieces of parchment paper and spread spice mixture over steaks. Wrap parchment paper over steak and tie with a kitchen string to seal.
Cook in oven for about 15 minutes (could be longer or shorter depending on desired doneness and thickness of meat).
Open parchment paper and remove kitchen string just before serving and garnish with Thai basil.
