Preparation steps

1.

Peel onions and garlic, dice and sauté in a saucepan with 2 tablespoons hot oil until decreased by half. Reserve half of onion and garlic mixture.

To saucepan with other half of onion and garlic mixture, add tomato paste and tomatoes, crush with a potato masher and simmer, uncovered, about 30 minutes. Season tomato sauce with salt, pepper and sugar.

2.

In a bowl mix together ground beef, remaining stewed onions and garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan and herbs and knead. Season meat mixture with salt and pepper. With moistened hands form small meatballs. In remaining hot oil fry meatballs. Add tomato sauce and simmer until done, about 10 minutes.

3.

Meanwhile cook spaghetti in plenty of boiling salted water until al dente. Arrange tomato sauce and meatballs with noodles and serve.
