Ingredients

for

For the nuts
500 grams mixed Nut (such as almonds, hazelnuts, cashews)
For the spice mixture
3 cloves
3 allspice
¼ Cinnamon stick
1 Star anise (to taste)
For the syrup
1 ⅕ liters Red wine (such as Pinot Noir)
500 grams sugar
6 small Jam jars (screw-cap)

Preparation steps

1.

For the nuts: Toast nuts unti light golden brown in a dry frying pan, stirring constantly. Allow to cool and pour the nuts into the jars​with the spice mixture ingredients.

2.

For the syrup: Melt the sugar over low heat in a large pot, pour in the red wine and boil briefly. The syrup should roughly have a honey-like consistency.

3.

Add as much syrup as required to cover the nuts completely. Seal the jars well and store in a dark, dry place.

4.

Allow nuts to soak for 1 week before serving.
