- Ingredients
- 2 Tbsps sunflower oil
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- ⅔ cup soft light brown sugar
- 0.333 cup Golden syrup
- 1 Tbsp Brandy
- ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ½ cup sliced almonds
Preparation
Kitchen utensils
1 Roasting pan, 1 Plate, 1 Measuring cups, 1 Cutting board, 1 Large knife, 1 Small knife, 1 Tablespoon, 1 Wooden spoon, 1 Peeler, 1 Aluminum foil, 1 Oven rack
Preparation steps
1.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160° fan)|350F|gas 4 and line two large baking trays with greaseproof paper. Grease the tops of the paper with the sunflower oil.
2.
Melt together the butter, sugar, Golden Syrup, and brandy in a saucepan set over a medium heat. Stir occasionally until smooth.
3.
Combine the flour and ground ginger in a large mixing bowl, making a well in the centre. Pour the melted butter mixture into the well and start to incorporate into the flour until thoroughly combined.
4.
Dollop generous teaspoons of the mixture onto the lined baking trays, spacing them apart, and spreading out into rounds. Top half with flaked almonds.
5.
Bake for 8 - 10 minutes until dark golden and set. Remove from the oven and leave to cool for 1 minute before curling some and shaping others around a sharpening steel. Leave them to cool and set before serving.
