Preparation steps

1.

Cut off the stem ends of the apples, reserving them. Remove the core, and hollow out the apples. Sprinkle the inside of the apples with lemon juice. Dice the pieces of apple that were removed, and also sprinkle with lemon juice.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (approximately 400°F). Add the bacon to a skillet over medium heat. Briefly sauté the diced apple and sauerkraut.  Add the caraway seed, and season with salt and pepper. Place the mixture into the apples, and top with the reserved apple tops. Place the apples in a greased baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes. Melt the butter in a pan. Remove the apples from the oven, place on plates, and drizzle with the melted butter. Serve immediately.
