250 grams Split pea
1 onion
2 carrots
2 stalks Celery
250 grams waxy potatoes
2 Tbsps Lard
750 milliliters Beef broth
1 Tbsp finely chopped marjoram
400 grams Sausage (such as Mettwurst)
salt
freshly ground peppers

Preparation steps

Rinse split peas and drain. Peel and dice onion and carrots. Rinse, trim and dice celery. Peel and dice potatoes. In a pot, fry vegetables in hot lard. Add split peas and broth and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, about 1 hour.

If needed, add additional broth to thin soup to desired consistency. Stir in marjoram and sliced sausage and cook until warmed through. Season with salt and pepper and serve with bread, if desired.
