- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp pure Almond extract
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 Tbsp milk
- ½ cup sanding sugar
Preparation steps

In a medium bowl, mix sugar, butter, milk, egg, vanilla extract and almond extract together. Sift in flour, baking powder and salt; stir to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Preheat oven to 375° F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Divide chilled dough into 4 equal portions. Place 3 portions back in the refrigerator until ready to use. Divide 1 portion into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a pencil-like strip about 10-inches long. Twist into a small pretzel shape and place on prepared baking sheet.

Whisk egg yolk and milk together. Brush each pretzel lightly with egg wash. and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat with remaining dough. Cool on wire racks. Serve.
