Preparation steps

1.
Beat shortening, butter, sugar, eggs and extracts in a large bowl with electric mixer set at medium speed. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. In separate bowl, blend flour, baking powder and salt. Stir dry mix into shortening mixture until well blended. Chill dough for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
2.
Preheat oven to 350º F.
3.
Divide dough. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness on floured work surface. Cut into shapes with cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until slightly golden brown around the edges. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
4.
For Icing:
5.
Heat cream and butter in a saucepan over medium heat, until butter melts. Stir in vanilla and powdered sugar. Remove from heat, and beat using and electric mixer until thick, creamy and smooth. Spoon icing into a pastry bag, using a very small tip, pipe snowflake designs on cookies. Let icing set before serving.
