Lamb Jalfrezi

- 1 kilogram lamb (such as, shoulder)
- 2 onions
- 2 garlic cloves
- 4 Tomatoes
- 2 Bell pepper (red and green)
- 1 green chili pepper
- 2 Tbsps Ghee
- 1 generous pinch Cumin (ground)
- 1 generous pinch Coriander (ground)
- 1 generous pinch allspice (ground)
- salt
- peppers
- 200 grams Yogurt (0.1% fat)
- 2 Tbsps finely chopped cilantro
Preparation steps
Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350ºF).
Rinse the meat, pat dry and cut into large cubes. Peel and finely chop the onions and the garlic. Rinse the tomatoes, remove the stalks and cut into pieces. Rinse the bell peppers and chile pepper, trim and cut into pieces.
Brown the meat vigorously in the ghee in a casserole dish. Add the onions and garlic and season with cumin, coriander, allspice, salt and pepper. Add some water along with the tomatoes, peppers and the yogurt.
Cover and let simmer for about 2 hours in the oven. Stir occasionally and add more water if necessary.
Remove the cover from the curry and leave to brown for about 10-15 minutes. Stir, season to taste and garnish with fresh coriander.
Serve with rice and naan bread as desired.
