Ingredients
- For the dessert
- 250 grams ground Poppy seeds
- 50 grams raisins
- ½ l milk
- 100 grams sugar
- 300 grams day-old White roll
- 50 grams Hazelnuts (chopped)
- Additional supplies
- 1 oval Pan 28 x 17 cm and 1/2 liter deep (approximately 11 x 7 inches, 2 cups deep)
Preparation steps
Bring the ground poppy seeds to a boil with the raisins, milk and sugar in a saucepan, then lower heat and simmer about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let rest about 20 minutes. Stir in the hazelnuts. Cut the bread into 1 1/2 cm (approximately 1/2 inch) thick slices.
For soaking, stir the milk and sugar together until the sugar has dissolved.
Place a third of the slices of bread in the milk-sugar mixture, then remove and line the bottom of a baking dish with the soaked slices. Spoon a third of the poppy mixture evenly over the bread. Place another third of the bread slices in the milk, then remove and layer over the first layer of bread slices. Press down lightly. Repeat the process until all of the ingredients are used up, finishing with a poppy layer. Let rest in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours.
