Preparation steps

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

Cut the bread slices with a large, star cookie cutter. Remove the center of the star with a small, circle cookie cutter or shot glass. Heat the butter in a large, oven-proof pan and briefly fry the bread stars. Crack the eggs into the center of each star and transfer to the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked to desired doneness. Remove from the oven, season with salt and pepper, garnish with chopped chives and serve.
