- 600 grams tart Apple (such as Boskop)
- butter (for the baking dish)
- 6 Tbsps sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsps grated Lemon peel
- 70 grams chopped almonds
- 400 milliliters milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 Tbsps butter
- powdered sugar (for dusting)
Preparation steps
Cut the rustic roll into thin slices.
Peel the apples, quarter, cut out the core and cut the flesh into thin slices.
Spread the rustic roll slices into a large buttered baking dish (or two small baking dishes) into a single layer and spread some of the apple slices over it. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons sugar, cinnamon, lemon zest and almonds over the apples. Spread an another layer of rustic rolls and apple slices over. Whisk the milk with eggs, pinch of salt and the remaining sugar (about 3 tablespoons), and pour over the roll-apples layers in the baking dish. Sprinkle the butter flakes on top.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (fan: 160°C, gas mark 2-3) (approximately 350°F) for about 40 minutes.
Take the dish out of the oven, cool slightly and serve dusted with powdered sugar.
