300 grams waxy potatoes

400 grams macaroni
2 onions
2 Tbsps butter
200 milliliters milk
100 milliliters Whipped cream
250 grams grated Cheese (such as Appenzeller)
freshly ground peppers
freshly grated Nutmeg

Preparation steps

1.

Peel the potatoes, rinse and dice. Cook in salted boiling water for about 10 minutes. Drain. Cook the noodles in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain.

Peel the onions, cut in half then thinly slice. Melt the butter in a large frying pan and sauté the onions until golden brown. Set aside.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (approximately 400°F).

Scald the milk and cream and then stir in about 2/3 of the cheese. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Combine the pasta and potatoes in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over top. Sprinkle with the onions and the remaining cheese.

5.

Bake until golden brown, around 10-15 minutes.
