Preparation steps

1.

Rinse oranges in hot water and wipe dry. Thinly slice 1 orange. Finely grate zest from the remaining oranges. Squeeze juice from the oranges. Top the juice up to 100 ml (approximately 1/2 cup) of orange juice.

2.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Grease a springform pan and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

3.

In a bowl, beat the butter with the sugar and salt until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs 1 at a time. In another bowl, stir the flour with the baking powder, ground almonds and orange zest. Alternately add the flour mixture and orange juice to the butter mixture until thoroughly combined. Pour the cake batter into the springform pan and smooth top. Place the orange slices on top. Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 45 minutes. After 30 minutes of baking time, cover with aluminum foil to prevent browning.

4.

Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack. Serve garnished w ith orange blossoms.
