Ingredients

For Turkey Burgers
3 cups ground Turkey
½ medium Red onion (diced)
2 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
½ cup fresh cilantro (finely chopped)
½ tsp fresh ginger (grated)
1 Tbsp sweet paprika
2 tsps ground, dry Mustard
1 tsp ground Cumin
1 ½ Tbsps low-sodium soy sauce
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
salt (to taste)
freshly ground peppers (to taste)
1 large Tomato (washed and thickly sliced)
For Fried Onion Rings
2 large onions (peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices)
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
2 cups Buttermilk (well shaken)
1 tsp Baking powder
1 Tbsp granulated sugar
salt (to taste)
Peanut oil (for frying)

Preparation steps

For Turkey Burgers:

Preheat grill for cooking.

In a large bowl, combine turkey, onion, garlic, cilantro, ginger, paprika, dry mustard, cumin, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix well to combine. Form into 4 patties.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill turkey burgers for 5 to 8 minutes per side, or until well done.

Season tomato slices with salt and pepper; brush lightly with oil and grill for about 1 minute on each side. Remove burgers and tomatoes from grill and transfer to individual plates. Place tomato slice on top of burger and serve with onion rings.

For Batter Fried Onion Rings:

Separate sliced onions into rings. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk flour, buttermilk, baking powder, sugar, and salt together until smooth.

Pour about 2-inches of oil into a Dutch oven. Heat oil until 375º F.

Working in small batches, dip onion rings in batter and coat well. Fry a few onion rings at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately with turkey burgers.
