100 grams Fennel

200 grams Pastry flour
50 grams cornstarch
3 tsps Baking powder
1 tsp ground paprika (sweet)
1 ground Caraway
50 grams grated Hard cheese (such as Gouda)
freshly ground peppers
softened butter (for the pan)
Pastry flour (for the pan)
150 grams butter
3 eggs
100 milliliters milk

Preparation steps

Step 1

Rinse green beans, pull out strings, if needed, and cut into small pieces. Rinse bell pepper, remove seeds and ribs. Peel and rinse carrots, rinse fennel. Cut vegetables into 1 cm (approximately 1/2 inch) cubes. Blanch beans in boiling salted water for about 3 minutes, add remaining vegetables and blanch for about 2 minutes more. Rinse in cold water and drain well.

Cut ham into small cubes.

Mix flour with cornstarch, baking powder, paprika, cumin powder and cheese. Season with about 1 teaspoon of salt and pepper.

Butter baking pan and sprinkle with flour.

Melt butter. Whisk eggs with an electric mixer. Add butter and milk, mix well. Add flour mixture and mix well quickly. Arrange vegetables and ham in the baking pan, pour batter over and bake in preheated oven at 180°C (approximately 350°F) for about 1 hour on the lower rack. Cool for about 10 minutes and invert onto plate. Serve warm or cold.
