Preparation steps

Rinse and trim the tomatoes. Cut into thin slices, and arrange on a plate. Peel and finely dice the onion. Sprinkle over the tomato. Rinse, dry, and finely chop the basil for garnish.

Mix the chopped basil leaves, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper in a mortar. Grind until the mixture has thickened, then gradually incporporate the oil. Drizzle the tomatoes with the dressing and garnish with the basil leaves.
